The field of landscape architecture increasingly requires cross-cultural knowledge and international perspectives. In the face of growing cultural diversity and transnational flow of people and ideas, study abroad programs at UW enables students to acquire those important skills. The department's curriculum supports international exchange through programs abroad and collaboration with partner institutions overseas. Past and current programs include design/build studios in Bosnia, Guatemala, Japan and Mexico, summer field studios in China and Taiwan, quarter-long programs in Rome, field trips to Denmark, the Netherlands, and Germany, and distance collaborative studios with Chiba University in Japan and Tamkang University in Taiwan.
The College of Built Environments has an ongoing exchange relationship with Faculty of Horticulture at Chiba University in Japan. Students also have the opportunity to participate in other foreign study programs through the University such as the Valle Scholarship and Exchange.
